"Bankgkok is the Venice of the east" wrote a visitor in the mid 19th century. Even today, the great Chao Phraya River and the network of canals also offer many nostalgic glimpses of the past. One of the most popular ways of seeing the sights of Bangkok is to embark on the canal tour by Chartered longtail boat from Tha Chang, in front of the Grand Palace. These tours follow a set route, taking in Wat Aroon and the Royal Barge museum and then continuing along Thonburi's network of small canals.

Many people who come to Thailand to learn about Buddhism or to practise Buddhist meditation come up against a language and cultural barrier. The International Buddhist Meditation Centre (I.B.M.C.), Bangkok arranges talks, study sessions and retreats to help surmount this barrier. The Vipassana Meditation Centre, Wat Mahadhatu (Section 5) offers a meditation class for English - speaking people everyday. The class begins in the morning at 7-10 a.m. afternoon from 1-4 p.m. and evening from 6-8 p.m. during the class, there is an introductory meditation instruction followed by the demonstration of walking and sitting meditation. Attendance is free of charge, but donations are welcome.

Many visitors go to Central world Plaza at Ratchaprasong intersection to shop. The area has a dazzling range of international brand name outlets. But its opposit site is also location to worshipers who visit the most famous shrine there to seek blessing from Tao Maha Brahma or Brahma God, one of the great three gods of Hindu belief.

Since August 2008, all locals and travellers can explore old Bangkok district by bicycle with Bangkok Green Bike campaign. This is a pilot project of Green Bangkok Projects and it's free of charge service. The bike route circuit is about 18 kilometres at the Rattanakosin island, passes many attractive places in Bangkok. Eight bike stations are on along the route.
